How did Snow Lake get it's name?

Someone said that Snow Lake got it's name from the kind of flowers that grow naturally around the lake back in the late 1800's but I think otherwise.

I don't think you have to remember back to figure out how Snow Lake got it's name.

Up on Hickory Island, cottagers have been waging all out war against the cottonwood trees for as long as I have been there. I have seen a bunch of them cut down over the years yet North Snow Bay continues to get rained on by cottonwood cotton every spring.

Cottonwood cotton gets into everywhere. It won't come off boat covers easily.

The other night we were at Dave's Lake Shack and a storm blew in. The amount of cottonwood in the air when poofed up by a strong guest of wind, made it look just like it was snowing outside.

When somebody opened the door, the bar became filled with cottonwood cotton. It hung in the air for a long time.

Now imagine back 100 years or so, I am sure there were a lot more cottonwoods back then. That's how I think Snow Lake got it's name.
